The construction of the Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program in Nyagatare District, Rwanda, has reached 69% completion. The State Minister also inspected the construction of the Nyagatare Substation, which is now 85% complete. The substation will have the capacity to receive up to 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity, strengthening the electricity network serving Nyagatare and surrounding areas. Once operational, the facility is expected to improve the availability and reliability of electricity for different users, including irrigation schemes, industries, and households.
The two projects are expected to complement each other, particularly in supporting agricultural transformation in Nyagatare, where irrigation and reliable electricity are crucial to increasing productivity and expanding agro-processing.
