The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) recently hosted the Maiden public lecture of the Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria (IHSAN), UBTH Chapter. Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, Chief Medical Director of UBTH, represented by Dr. Philip Osho, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Clinicals), emphasized the importance of professionalism and ethical integrity in the healthcare system. The lecture, themed "Still Diligent: The Mindset of the Public Servant in a Healthcare System in Flux," highlighted the need for continuous self-reflection and professional growth.
The Chief Medical Director commended the local IHSAN chapter for its vision and commitment to elevating professional standards in the medical landscape. She expressed the hospital management's support for intellectual forums that promote knowledge exchange, institutional capacity, and excellence. The event brought together top management staff, senior officials, professionals, and stakeholders from within and outside the hospital.
The Chairman of IHSAN, UBTH Chapter, Uwaila Ilesammi Joshua, Esq., described the lecture as a significant milestone for the chapter. The guest lecturer, Ven. Osazee David Egbenusi, Esq. JP, identified essential attributes of diligent public servants, including continuous learning, ethical stewardship, service orientation, inter-professional collaboration, and resilience. He noted that healthcare administration is being reshaped by digital transformation, health insurance reforms, and rising public expectations.
The Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Aikefe Aigbavboa, Esq., was the Special Guest of Honor at the event. She contributed to the discourse on professionalism and public service, emphasizing the need for collaboration and knowledge sharing. The lecture attracted a broad representation of stakeholders, including management staff, professionals, and stakeholders from within and outside the hospital.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Director of Administration, UBTH, Jim Uwadiae, Esq.; Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Grace Arheghan; and Immediate Past Director of Administration, UBTH, Mr. M. O. Jimoh-Kadiri. Other attendees included representatives from Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) and the National Orthopedic Hospital, Benin.
