China's Ambassador to Nairobi, Guo Haiyan, has reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to strengthening its relationship with Kenya. Speaking at the 77th Founders Day celebrations at the Chinese Embassy, Haiyan emphasized that Kenya and China are working closely to implement a series of agreements reached by the two nations. She highlighted China's opposition to unilateral sanctions against African countries and its proactive expansion of unilateral opening-up, granting comprehensive zero-tariff treatment without conditions.

Guo Haiyan reflected on China's development since its founding, noting that the country has entered an irreversible historical process of rejuvenation. She emphasized that China's growth cannot be separated from friendly cooperation with countries like Kenya. Haiyan described Kenya as a country of hope, stating that China has never interfered in its internal affairs and has firmly supported Kenya in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity.

The Chinese diplomat also touched on the country's cultural achievements, noting that China's traditional culture has regained its vitality and won the admiration of people worldwide. She mentioned the emergence of 'Travel to China' and 'Chinamaxxing' as top cultural trends among young people. Guo Haiyan looked back at the founders of the People's Republic, stating that they could hardly have imagined China's current status as the world's second-largest economy.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who was the Chief Guest at the National Day reception, praised China's remarkable strides in development, emerging as one of the world's leading economies. He noted that Kenya and China have much to share in national transformation, particularly as Kenya looks ahead to craft its development agenda beyond 2030. Mudavadi emphasized the importance of strengthening state institutions in Kenya, critical in fighting corruption, combating tribalism, and enhancing national unity.

Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, highlighted the several agreements concluded to enhance political, economic, and technical cooperation between Kenya and China. These agreements span various sectors, including finance, manufacturing, infrastructure development, health, tourism, culture, and education. He expressed optimism that these agreements will unlock investment opportunities and enhance Kenya's capacity to compete and trade in the Chinese market.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also appreciated China's support for key infrastructure projects in Kenya, including the dualling of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway and the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha through Kisumu to Malaba. He noted that these projects are central to strengthening regional connectivity and enabling land-locked countries to access the Indian Ocean for trade.

The enhanced cooperation between Kenya and China is expected to transform predominantly rural, small-scale agricultural areas into Special Economic Zones that promote manufacturing, value addition, and trade. The two countries are poised to deepen their partnership, with a focus on mutually beneficial development and cooperation.
