Mr. Wang Jinxiao, Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana), has called on Chinese businesses operating in Ghana to consider investing in the Volta Region. He made the appeal at the Volta Economic Forum, where he delivered a goodwill message. The forum's focus on moving from opportunity showcasing to investment execution is timely, Mr. Wang said. Ghana has presented investment opportunities across sectors and regions for many years, and the priority now should be turning them into businesses, jobs, and sustainable economic development.
The Volta Region possesses significant human, agricultural, industrial, tourism, and energy potential, supported by its strategic location, natural resources, coastline, and proximity to neighboring markets. Mr. Wang encouraged the Chinese business community to view the region not just as a place where investment opportunities are presented but as a destination where businesses can be established, industries developed, jobs created, and communities supported.
Properly executed investments can generate benefits beyond individual projects by creating demand for local services, developing skills, supporting local businesses, generating employment, and contributing to the wider economy. Mr. Wang emphasized that investment should go beyond attracting capital to building local capacity, facilitating technology and knowledge transfer, creating jobs, and promoting sustainable development.
This approach is consistent with the broader direction of Ghana-China economic cooperation. Mr. Wang also highlighted that China's expanded zero-tariff treatment for African countries, effective from May 1, 2026, presents an opportunity for Ghana to strengthen productive capacity, add value to its natural resources, and develop businesses capable of competing in Chinese and international markets.
Mr. Wang called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector, communities, traditional authorities, and development partners. He urged Chinese enterprises to "come and invest, come and build and come and partner" with Ghanaian businesses and communities to create lasting value and contribute to the development of the Volta Region and Ghana.
The Volta Economic Forum aims to turn economic opportunities into bankable investments. Exim Bank has also urged the Volta Region to focus on converting its economic opportunities into viable investment projects. The bank's appeal aligns with Mr. Wang's call for Chinese businesses to invest in the region.
The Ghanaian government's efforts to promote investment in the Volta Region are expected to yield positive results, with the region poised to become a hub for economic growth and development. The involvement of Chinese businesses is crucial in driving this growth, and Mr. Wang's appeal is expected to resonate with the Chinese business community.
