Lt. Gen. Agyapong stressed that the increasingly dynamic and complex security environment confronting Ghana and the sub-region requires the Armed Forces to continuously review their strategies, policies, and operational approaches to remain prepared for future challenges. He encouraged senior officers to engage in candid discussions and exchange perspectives on the future direction of the Armed Forces, emphasizing that the strength of senior leadership should not be based solely on uniformity of thought, but on open and professional dialogue that promotes unity of purpose.
The Chief of Defence Staff urged the generals to challenge ideas constructively, share their experiences, and remain open to learning from one another, stressing that military rank and experience must be accompanied by humility. He also called for greater emphasis on integrated planning, coordinated execution, and a shared strategic vision across the various services of the Ghana Armed Forces, citing the modern battlefield's increasing requirement for joint operations.
The seminar is addressing a range of issues, including intelligence and the handling of classified information, the military justice system, releases and retirement procedures, ethical leadership, command experiences, and contemporary military administration. Lt. Gen. Agyapong said the discussions are intended not merely to review existing procedures but also to reaffirm the professional values of the Ghana Armed Forces and ensure that its leadership remains responsive to changing security demands.
The Chief of Defence Staff encouraged the senior officers to uphold duty, honour, integrity, discipline, and selfless service as they lead the Armed Forces. He expressed hope that the Generals' Convention would become a regular biannual feature on the Ghana Armed Forces' professional training calendar and serve as a platform for sustained strategic reflection and leadership development.
