On October 29, 2026, the Moundou municipal executive handed over a significant quantity of educational materials to learners at the Madaga detention center. This initiative aims to enhance the learning environment for incarcerated individuals and promote their social reintegration through education. The donation was led by Moundou Mayor Emmanuel Béassemda Njerassem, who was accompanied by his collaborators.

The donated materials include 16 books for third and terminal classes, 80 notebooks, five reams of paper, eight boxes of pens, 20 boxes of chalk, 25 desks and chairs, four teacher's desks, and five blackboards. Additionally, the donation comprises crayons, erasers, and rulers. This gesture is part of the municipality's commitment to improving the educational environment in correctional facilities.

The donation fulfills a pledge made by Mayor Njerassem on August 28, 2026, during a ceremony where the President of the Republic decreed the remission of sentences. The mayor's visit to the detention center included a meeting with the Director of Prison Administration, Mahamat Hissein, to discuss the facility's operations and detention conditions.

The municipal delegation also conducted a guided tour of the detention center, visiting various sections, including areas reserved for minors, women, and convicts, as well as classrooms, a sewing workshop, and spaces for religious and commercial activities. During the tour, the mayor identified several challenges, particularly those related to water supply and sanitation.

The mayor expressed his willingness to address concerns related to the rehabilitation of water pumps and the development of septic tanks. He commended the efforts of inmates who participate in educating their fellow detainees and encouraged them to continue their learning and maintain hope for their future.

Director Mahamat Hissein welcomed the visit, describing it as the first of its kind since his appointment. He thanked the municipal delegation for their attention to the detention center's needs and emphasized the urgent need to resolve water supply difficulties.

The educational initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of incarcerated individuals in Moundou, enabling them to acquire knowledge and skills that can aid in their social reintegration upon release. The municipality's efforts to improve the educational environment in correctional facilities demonstrate its commitment to promoting rehabilitation and reducing recidivism.
