The Centre de Documentation et d’Information Géographique (CDIG) in Chad officially launched its Geoportal and mobile application "SITEAU-APP" on October 27, 2026. These digital tools aim to improve water resource data management and facilitate decision-making in the hydraulic sector. The launch, under the patronage of Water and Energy Minister Passalé Kanabé Marcelin, marks a significant step in modernizing geographic information management related to water resources.
Established by law n° 024/PR/2019 on April 26, 2019, CDIG is Chad's reference center for geographic documentation and information. Its mission is to centralize, valorize, and disseminate water resource data to support public policies and improve investment planning in the sector. The center plays a crucial role in enhancing the country's ability to manage its water resources effectively.
During the opening ceremony, Adoum Ramadan Kaboul, advisor on sanitation and representative of the minister, highlighted the strategic importance of water for Chad's development. He emphasized that water is essential for health, dignity, food security, economic development, and social cohesion. Kaboul also noted the challenges posed by climate change, variable precipitation, and evolving water needs.
The Geoportal and SITEAU-APP are considered major technological advancements by Kaboul. These tools are expected to improve investment orientation, enhance monitoring of hydraulic infrastructure, and increase transparency in their management. The applications will enable better decision-making and more efficient use of resources.
Ali Abakar Ali, CDIG's director-general, stated that the workshop aims to present the features of these platforms to stakeholders, gather feedback, and promote their adoption. He emphasized that SITEAU will become a common tool for ministerial services, projects, non-governmental organizations, and partners working in the water sector.
To ensure the reliability and quality of the information, CDIG will implement a transparent validation mechanism and guarantee long-term conservation of the data. Regular updates will depend on the involvement of all stakeholders. The center plans to test the application in real conditions in Bongor, Mayo-Kebbi Est province, to gather user feedback and identify necessary improvements.
The launch of the Geoportal and SITEAU-APP marks a significant milestone in Chad's efforts to modernize its water management systems. The effective implementation of these tools will depend on collaboration among stakeholders and the center's ability to address challenges and adapt to evolving needs. The success of these initiatives will be crucial in enhancing Chad's water resource management and supporting the country's development.
