A mission to evaluate and discuss risk communication and community engagement in Chad convened a working session in Mao, Kanem province, to strengthen the prevention of health, environmental, and social crises. The meeting was chaired by Annour Djibrine Abdoulaye, Secretary General of Kanem province. This effort aims to enhance crisis prevention and management through improved communication and community involvement.

The risk communication and community engagement strategy is a national initiative led by Chad's Ministry of Public Health and Prevention, in collaboration with partners such as UNICEF and WHO. The strategy seeks to bolster the prevention and management of health, environmental, and social crises. This mission follows the establishment of the Kanem province's CREC focal point in December 2025.

The evaluation and exchange session brings together authorities, technicians from various ministerial departments, and opinion leaders. The goal is to educate participants on risk communication and community engagement, enabling them to better utilize their potential to support prevention and health promotion actions. Dr. Hamid Borgou Haggar, Kanem's provincial health delegate, emphasized CREC's role in preventing epidemics by raising awareness about diseases like cholera, dengue, and Ebola.

According to Dr. Djadda Ali Nanaye, head of the mission, participants will be tasked with relaying essential information and actively sensitizing populations in their respective neighborhoods to achieve a lasting impact on public health. The mission aims to empower participants to become key players in risk communication and community engagement.

Annour Djibrine Abdoulaye, Secretary General of Kanem province, commended the Ministry of Public Health and its partners for this initiative. He urged the technicians comprising the CREC focal point to work diligently to strengthen communication and awareness activities, particularly during this critical period of the year.

The Secretary General assured the mission of local administration's support in achieving its objectives. The mission's efforts are expected to enhance the province's ability to prevent and manage crises through effective communication and community engagement.
