Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire - The Organisation interprofessionnelle agricole de la filière coton de Côte d'Ivoire (INTERCOTON) has initiated a project to enhance the governance and performance of cotton producer cooperatives using digital tools. This effort is part of the Projet de résilience des systèmes cotonniers du Nord de la Côte d'Ivoire (RESCO). The project aims to provide cooperatives with updated software and a system for identification and georeferencing.

An atelier was held in Yamoussoukro on October 6-7, 2026, to finalize and validate the study for updating cooperative management and simplified accounting software. Around 40 participants from public structures, agricultural professional organizations, and beneficiary cooperatives attended the event. The works focused on updating three complementary tools: GESCOOP for cooperative management, EASYCOMPTA for simplified accounting, and a system integrating identification and georeferencing (SIG).

The goal of this initiative is to equip cooperatives with applications tailored to their operational realities, organizational changes, and new accounting requirements. This project also aims to correct the shortcomings of previous solutions developed under the Projet des pôles agro-industriels du Centre (PSAC). A significant innovation is the integration of georeferencing, which will enable the localization of legally constituted cooperatives, identification of their leaders, and access to reliable data on their organization and functioning.

These data will also enhance the monitoring, supervision, and support capacities of the Fédération des unions des sociétés coopératives des producteurs de coton de Côte d'Ivoire (FPC-CI). Silué Siontiamma Jean-Baptiste, INTERCOTON's executive director and RESCO project coordinator, emphasized the need to adapt management tools to current cooperative realities and accounting system reforms.

Kassoum Silué, general director of FPC-CI, praised the support of the Ivoirian State, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Agence française de développement (AFD), and INTERCOTON for this initiative. He noted that GESCOOP and EASYCOMPTA will improve the administrative and accounting management of cooperatives, highlighting the involvement of beneficiaries as a guarantee of better appropriation of the tools.

The RESCO project, coordinated by INTERCOTON, aims to promote sustainable development of the cotton sector in the face of climate vulnerability through four components: sustainability and innovation, professionalization of family farms, improvement of commercialization, and institutional capacity building, using a gender-sensitive approach.
