The Haut-Sassandra regional council in Côte d'Ivoire has initiated a program aimed at enhancing learning conditions for students in the region. Launched on September 18, 2026, in Gonaté, the program involves the provision of school infrastructure to 33 localities across four departments. This development comes as the 2026-2027 academic year commenced five days prior. The council's efforts focus on addressing the shortage of educational facilities.
A total of 117 classrooms and 6,225 desks are set to be distributed. The program includes the construction of new buildings and renovation of existing ones. Specifically, four classrooms were handed over at the modern secondary school in Gonaté, while three classrooms were provided to the modern college in Grébeu. These additions aim to increase the capacity of these educational institutions.
In the primary education sector, 27 buildings with three classrooms each, totaling 81 classrooms, will be provided. Additionally, 20 blocks of latrines with four cabins each are part of the program. For secondary education, nine buildings with four classrooms each, amounting to 36 classrooms, are planned. These new facilities will benefit numerous localities, including Bandiahi, Brohouta, and Amanikro.
The program's scope extends to various localities across the region, such as Bolouguhe, Zahia, and Noumousseria. Other areas set to benefit include Adjamé, Gboguhé, Bédiala, and Luenoufla. The initiative also covers Gadouan, Gonaté, Sabreguhé, and Joachimkro. Furthermore, Luehouan, Tézié, Gazéhio, and Makoua are among the localities that will receive new infrastructure.
Mamadou Touré, president of the Haut-Sassandra regional council, emphasized the significance of these investments. He noted that they will help reduce the deficit in school infrastructure and improve the learning environment for students. Since 2023, the council has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen the region's educational system.
