The Côte d'Ivoire government has officially launched the Popote Familiale 2026 project, a new initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable households. On November 2, 2026, at the Treichville city hall, the government announced the financing of income-generating activities for beneficiaries. This project is an evolution of the previous initiative, which provided essential food assistance to 2,000 households.
The project, launched by the Ministry of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and Poverty Reduction in June 2025, aims to provide a concrete response to the difficulties faced by the most vulnerable households. In 2026, the project accompanied 2,000 vulnerable households, representing around 10,000 people. This intervention combines social assistance, capacity building, and entrepreneurship support.
During its pilot phase, the project allowed 2,000 identified households to benefit from food and hygiene kits worth around 50,250 FCFA per month for six months. In the second phase, launched on April 29, 2026, beneficiaries received a monthly allocation of 7,000 FCFA to support protein purchases, reduced to 5,000 FCFA in certain areas.
The project also integrated life skills training and small economic activity management. A major innovation in this phase is the grant of 100,000 FCFA to each beneficiary household to create an income-generating activity, build initial stock, acquire equipment, or strengthen an existing activity. A total of 200 million FCFA is allocated to this exit subsidy.
At the ceremony, 120 beneficiaries from the Autonomous District of Abidjan were honored. The government views this financing as an investment in the productive capacities of families, aiming to transform acquired knowledge into concrete economic initiatives capable of generating regular income.
The Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and Poverty Reduction emphasized that the Popote Familiale project is not exclusively for women but for households as a whole. She highlighted that the project reflects President Alassane Ouattara's vision of not leaving any Ivoirian behind, as part of a national solidarity policy to protect vulnerable populations while creating conditions for their empowerment.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and emotional testimonies, illustrating the social impact of the project on daily life, education, and household stability. According to a survey of 350 beneficiary households, 78.57% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the program, demonstrating its interest for concerned households.
