The Côte d'Ivoire government has mobilized 200 million FCFA to support 2,000 vulnerable households through the "Popote familiale" project. The funds will be used to finance income-generating activities, with each household receiving 100,000 FCFA. The initiative aims to promote economic autonomy for these households. The announcement was made by Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and Poverty Reduction, Myss Belmonde Dogo, on November 2, 2026.
The "Popote familiale" project, implemented by the Ministry of Solidarity, aims to improve the living conditions of extremely poor households registered in the Unique Social Register (RSU). The project, launched in June 2025, provides support to vulnerable households for a period of one year. During this time, households receive a monthly allocation of 5,000 FCFA, as well as food and hygiene kits.
The 200 million FCFA allocation is part of the government's efforts to support the economic empowerment of vulnerable households. According to Minister Dogo, the funds will be used to finance income-generating activities, such as small businesses or entrepreneurship projects. The goal is to enable households to become self-sufficient and improve their economic prospects.
Minister Dogo emphasized the importance of responsible management of the funds, urging beneficiaries to adhere to their planned activities and track their expenses and revenues. She also highlighted the need for beneficiaries to preserve their capital to ensure the sustainability of their initiatives.
The government has also announced plans to expand the project, with a proposed budget of 2 billion FCFA for 2027, up from 1.13 billion FCFA in 2026. This increase will enable more households to benefit from the project and receive support for their economic empowerment.
The "Popote familiale" project has already made a significant impact, with 527,000 households currently benefiting from the program, and a target of 627,000 households by the end of November 2026. The project is part of the government's efforts to reduce poverty and promote economic growth.
The government will provide follow-up support to households that have completed the program, including a six-month monitoring period to prevent a relapse into poverty. Beneficiaries who have completed the program will not be eligible to participate again, but may be referred to other programs or initiatives.
