The Côte d'Ivoire and the Republic of Korea have celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening their bilateral partnership. The ceremony took place at the Alassane Ouattara Sports, Cultural, and ICT Center in Abidjan, attended by members of the Ivoirian government, diplomats, and several personalities. This milestone marks a significant step in the cooperation between the two nations, which have shared a strong partnership since July 23, 1961.

As the first African country to establish diplomatic relations with Seoul, Côte d'Ivoire holds a vital place in South Korea's African cooperation strategy. South Korean Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, Chang Soyc, praised the solidity of their partnership, built on mutual trust and a shared ambition for economic and social development. He emphasized that this anniversary represents a new starting point for building a future for future generations.

The South Korean ambassador highlighted the importance of Côte d'Ivoire's economic ambitions, which Seoul aims to support through investments in human capital, technology transfer, and rural development. The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Saemaul Foundation are key instruments in this cooperation. This dynamic is also driven by high-level exchanges between the two countries, including Ivoirian President Alassane Ouattara's official visit to South Korea in 2014.

Ivoirian Minister Delegate for African Integration and Ivoirian Expatriates, Adama Dosso, represented the Ivoirian government at the ceremony. He welcomed a cooperation that has enabled concrete achievements in several strategic sectors, including the Alassane Ouattara Sports, Cultural, and ICT Center in Abidjan and the Alassane Ouattara National Radiotherapy Center, set to open in December 2026.

The economic exchanges between Côte d'Ivoire and South Korea reached 202 billion CFA francs in 2025. Both parties aim to consolidate this dynamic by aligning it with Côte d'Ivoire's National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030. The transformation of agriculture, infrastructure, digitalization, and private sector mobilization are among the main axes identified to deepen economic relations and promote new investment opportunities.

Cooperation between Abidjan and Seoul extends beyond economics to culture, sports, and education, considered levers for rapprochement between populations. Taekwondo, a Korean discipline widely practiced in Côte d'Ivoire, is an example of this cooperation. Ivoirian athlete Cheick Sallah Cissé's Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio Games illustrates the importance of sports in the ties between the two countries.

As Côte d'Ivoire and South Korea look to the future, they are committed to strengthening their partnership and exploring new opportunities for cooperation. With a strong foundation of mutual trust and shared ambitions, the two nations are poised to build a brighter future for their citizens and future generations.
