The national campaign "Pagb Yidgr-Sooré", which translates to "Entrepreneurship for Women", recently visited the rural commune of Korsimoro in the Koulsé region of Burkina Faso. The campaign aims to promote women's empowerment through entrepreneurship and financial autonomy. During the visit, the delegation met with local women who are leading inspiring initiatives in various sectors. The campaign's goal is to encourage women to take an active role in the country's socio-economic development.
One of the women who met with the delegation was Mamounata Kargougou, an entrepreneur who specializes in processing peanuts into various products such as peanut paste, kourakoura, and peanut oil. Her business has been a family affair for generations, and she formalized her structure in 2024 to make it officially recognized. Kargougou's business has not only improved her financial situation but also enabled her to train other women, including internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Despite her success, Kargougou faces logistical challenges, including a need for machinery to increase efficiency and productivity. She called for support to expand her business and train more women. The delegation also visited the Maison de la Femme, where the Riyilma ya Burkipogsé cooperative showcased its expertise in processing local products such as millet, peanuts, and beans. The cooperative's president, Fatoumata Bamogo, highlighted the positive impact of their activities on the community.
Bamogo emphasized that the cooperative's activities have enabled women to understand the importance of working hard and achieving financial autonomy. The cooperative has distributed profits to its members, including 1 million FCFA last year and 750,000 FCFA this year. She stressed the importance of solidarity and unity among women, encouraging them to work together and support one another.
The "Pagb Yidgr-Sooré" campaign also organized an educational session with local youth and women to promote entrepreneurship and financial autonomy. The session aimed to raise awareness and motivate women to take control of their financial lives. The campaign's message is clear: women have the power to shape their own destiny and contribute to the country's socio-economic development.
The visit to Korsimoro highlighted the progress made by women in the region, who are no longer content to wait for handouts. Instead, they are taking initiative and working together to achieve financial autonomy. The "Pagb Yidgr-Sooré" campaign is supporting these efforts, providing a platform for women to share their experiences and inspire one another.
As the campaign continues to travel across the country, it is clear that women's entrepreneurship is on the rise in Burkina Faso. With the support of initiatives like "Pagb Yidgr-Sooré", women are poised to play a leading role in shaping the country's economic future.
