On November 5, 2026, Burkinabè author Ag Ibrahim Mohamed presented his third book, "ESSAKANE, L’OASIS D’OR", in Ouagadougou. The 405-page book is divided into four parts and explores the history of gold mining in the Sahel region, specifically in the village of Essakane. As the author noted, the book aims to document the history of gold in the region and highlight the importance of preserving memories of the past.

According to Ag Ibrahim Mohamed, his book is not a biography or a novel but rather a personal chronicle that provides a comprehensive account of the Essakane mine's history, from its inception to its current state. The author emphasized that the story of Essakane is not just about the mine itself but also about the people and communities affected by it. He stressed the need to prepare for a future without the mine, as its resources are limited.

The book delves into various aspects of the mine's operations, including its social and environmental impacts, labor practices, and economic contributions. Ag Ibrahim Mohamed also explores the mine's legacy and the need to preserve it for future generations. He highlighted that gold has been present in the Sahel region for centuries, with local communities using it in various forms, such as jewelry and currency.

The preface of the book was written by Baba Hama, a renowned Burkinabè writer and former Minister of Culture. Hama praised Ag Ibrahim Mohamed's work, noting that he has consistently produced high-quality writing. He emphasized that the book provides a unique perspective on the village of Essakane and its significance in the region.

Thierry Millogo, responsible for Editions Mercury, praised Ag Ibrahim Mohamed's expertise on the subject of gold mining in Burkina Faso. He noted that the author has a deep understanding of the sector, including its history, geography, and future prospects. Millogo described the book as one of the best on the subject and encouraged Ag Ibrahim Mohamed to continue producing high-quality work.

"ESSAKANE, L’OASIS D’OR" is available at the Mercury bookstore in Ouagadougou for 10,000 FCFA. This is Ag Ibrahim Mohamed's third book, following "Les Pépites d’Essakane" (2023) and "Burkina Faso: un ténor de l’or" (2025). The author's work aims to promote a better understanding of the gold mining industry and its impact on local communities.

The presentation of "ESSAKANE, L’OASIS D’OR" was attended by authorities, literary figures, friends, and former colleagues. The event marked a significant milestone in Ag Ibrahim Mohamed's writing career, solidifying his position as a prominent Burkinabè author.
