Burkina Faso's Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, has emphasized the country's commitment to self-determination during an exclusive interview with Russia Today at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow on October 27, 2026. The interview, which lasted around thirty minutes, focused on Burkina Faso's struggle against imperialism, management of national resources, and construction of respectful partnerships.

In the interview, Ouédraogo denounced domination and unbalanced agreements, highlighting the need for Burkina Faso to decide its own future. He stressed that the country's break with France's imperialist policies was driven by a desire for emancipation. Ouédraogo clarified that Burkina Faso has no issues with the French people, but rather seeks to be the master of its own destiny.

The Prime Minister responded to criticism that Burkina Faso's growing ties with Russia signify a shift in tutelage. He emphasized that the country has transitioned to a new type of cooperation, one that is honest, transparent, and equal. This cooperation is based on mutual interests between Burkina Faso and its partners.

Ouédraogo outlined the country's priorities, including strengthening national production capacities, technology transfers, and training. He emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency in food production, local transformation of mineral resources, and development of national competencies. These goals align with the vision of President Capitaine Ibrahim Traoré.

The Prime Minister also discussed the security situation in Burkina Faso, reporting significant improvements. He stated that over 74% of the country's territory has been consolidated, with areas being reconquered, secured, and repopulated by displaced persons. Ouédraogo acknowledged the contribution of Russian partnerships in enhancing the capabilities of Burkina Faso's fighting forces.

The struggle for sovereignty, shared with Mali and Niger within the Confederation of Sahel States, also involves an information dimension. Ouédraogo denounced disinformation campaigns targeting AES states and advocated for international relations based on respect for peoples.

Through the interview, Ouédraogo conveyed the clear orientation of the popular progressive revolution, particularly in its diplomatic aspect. The goal is to build partnerships that strengthen Burkina Faso's capacities, preserve its freedom of choice, and serve the aspirations of its people.
