The Ministry of Health in Burkina Faso, led by Minister Robert Lucien Jean Claude Kargougou, launched a month-long health communication campaign in local languages on October 27, 2026, in Ouagadougou. The campaign, scheduled to run from November 2 to 30, 2026, aims to educate the population on health matters using local languages. According to Minister Kargougou, "In health matters, understandable information can protect a life." The campaign will utilize various media channels, including partner radios, to disseminate health information to the public.

The Minister emphasized that health communication is a crucial component of prevention and health protection. Despite efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and improve access to care, the population must have access to comprehensible information to recognize risks and adopt healthy behaviors. The campaign will focus on different health issues specific to various regions of the country. The first week will be dedicated to reviewing the actions, reforms, and achievements of the health sector since September 2022.

The campaign will feature interactive radio programs, expert interventions, and other community-based formats. A special broadcast is planned for October 31, 2026, on Radio Burkina, in the Mooré language, with relay broadcasts on partner radios. The Minister highlighted that the initiative has the technical support of the departments responsible for communication and national languages, through the permanent secretariat for the promotion of national languages.

The decision to dedicate an entire month to health communication in local languages was questioned by journalists during the press conference. Minister Kargougou explained that the goal is to reach the maximum number of Burkinabè and encourage their participation in preserving their health. He stressed that the ministry wants to engage with the population in their languages, listen to their concerns, and empower them to take charge of their health.

The campaign targets the entire Burkinabè population, with a focus on vulnerable groups. By using local languages, the ministry aims to overcome language barriers and ensure that health information reaches a wider audience. The Minister expressed his hope that this initiative will contribute to improving the health and well-being of the population.

The health communication campaign is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and promote healthy behaviors. The ministry has been working to improve access to healthcare and health information, particularly in rural areas. The campaign is expected to have a positive impact on the health and well-being of the population.
