In Burkina Faso, the Cercle d'action pour le développement économique et social (CADES-BF) recently organized a road safety awareness campaign in Ouagadougou. The event, which took place at the Patte d'Oie roundabout, aimed to encourage road users, particularly motorcyclists, to adopt better road behaviors. This initiative is part of CADES-BF's "4 years, 4 actions to celebrate IB" program.
The campaign, which was conducted in collaboration with the Office national de sécurité routière (ONASER) and the Programme national de volontariat au Burkina Faso, involved distributing around 30 helmets to users who did not wear them. The distribution was accompanied by practical advice on the risks associated with not wearing a helmet and the importance of respecting traffic rules.
According to Idrissa Sankara, Secretary General of CADES-BF, the awareness campaign aimed to educate users on the proper use of helmets and to continue the current trend of rejecting users who do not wear helmets. He emphasized that the organization's goal is to support vulnerable people by providing them with helmets and encouraging them to wear them correctly.
Moïse Ouédraogo, Commissioner and Director of Normalization and Operations at ONASER, representing the Director General of ONASER, highlighted the importance of collaboration between associations and road safety structures. He stated that ONASER's role is to protect road users, and that the organization's involvement in the campaign is crucial to achieving this goal.
The beneficiaries of the campaign welcomed the initiative, which they see as a concrete step towards improving their daily safety. Lamine Tapsoba, a helmet recipient, expressed his gratitude to CADES-BF for the awareness campaign and the helmet, which he believes will help him stay safe on the roads.
This initiative highlights that road safety is a collective responsibility. ONASER plans to continue its awareness campaigns to promote responsible behavior on the roads and make helmet-wearing a daily habit. The organization believes that collaboration with associations like CADES-BF is essential to achieving this goal.
The road safety awareness campaign is part of a series of activities organized by CADES-BF, including a reforestation operation on September 21 and a road repair operation and "revolutionary café" scheduled for September 26. These initiatives demonstrate CADES-BF's commitment to promoting road safety and contributing to the well-being of Burkinabé citizens.
