The Direction de la Formation Supérieure en Sciences de la Santé (DFSSS) in Burkina Faso initiated the defense exams for its students' final year projects on October 6, 2026. A total of 48 students are set to defend their projects before juries to obtain their diplomas as health administrators and pharmaceutical sciences engineers. This batch of exams involves 40 students in health administration and 8 students in pharmaceutical sciences engineering.

The projects presented by the students aim to equip them with skills to address the challenges faced by Burkina Faso's health system. The first student to present his project was Sota Aimé Somé, who defended his work on "Factors explaining the prolonged delay of patients in accessing dialysis treatment: the case of Sourô-Sanou University Hospital Center." His project was declared admissible with an average score of 17/20.

Sota Aimé Somé expressed his satisfaction with the score, which he believes rewards two years of hard work and sacrifices. His choice of theme was also influenced by personal experience, having had relatives who faced difficulties in accessing dialysis treatment. The score of 17/20 was a welcome relief for Somé, who felt that it validated his efforts.

Dr. Issaka Compaoré, president of the jury and director of DFSSS, praised Somé's project for its relevance and the quality of work presented. He believes that Somé's achievement demonstrates his understanding of the subject matter and that he will be a valuable asset in the health sector. Compaoré also highlighted that the 48 students are expected to bring about constructive changes in Burkina Faso's health services.

The defense exams are a crucial step for the students, who will obtain diplomas in health administration and pharmaceutical sciences engineering upon completion. These new professionals will be tasked with applying their skills to improve the health system in Burkina Faso. According to Dr. Compaoré, the goal is to see these future cadres contribute to addressing the challenges faced by the health sector.

The batch of 48 students comprises 40 health administrators and 8 pharmaceutical sciences engineers. Once they obtain their diplomas, they will be expected to play a vital role in improving the health system in Burkina Faso. The defense exams are a significant milestone in their academic journey, marking the culmination of their studies.
