From September 27 to October 1, 2026, the IP-P3A organized a training session in Ouagadougou, focusing on modern soilless pisciculture techniques for 100 beneficiaries, including Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP), retired or injured military personnel, and agricultural entrepreneurs. The initiative aims to strengthen local production in Burkina Faso. The training is part of the IP-P3A's efforts to support the country's agricultural development.
The training program covers essential aspects of soilless pisciculture, including site selection, water management, fish feeding, transformation techniques, economic opportunities, and simplified accounting. Participants also engage in practical demonstrations of setting up pisciculture tanks and stocking fish. According to Inoussa Ouédraogo, coordinator of IP-P3A, this activity is part of the initiative's fourth component, and it follows a similar training session held in Bobo-Dioulasso.
The Director Executive of the Bureau national des grands projets du Burkina (BN-GPB), Pr Hamidou Sawadogo, emphasized that the training takes place in a significant context, marked by the fourth anniversary of the Révolution progressiste et populaire (RPP). He highlighted that soilless pisciculture is part of the effort to strengthen national production capacities, enabling Burkina Faso to produce what it needs internally.
The training program also includes material support for participants. After completing the training, beneficiaries will receive soilless tanks free of charge and can procure fish feed and fingerlings at subsidized prices. Abdoul Bassirou Kaboré, an injured war veteran, expressed gratitude for the initiative, which has equipped him with new skills in pisciculture.
Mouniratou Traoré, a VDP agricultural worker, plans to share her knowledge with others to promote the techniques learned. The IP-P3A aims to deploy 13,000 mobile pisciculture tanks, each with a capacity of 50m², to benefit 13,000 VDPs across the country. The initiative seeks to enhance food security and support local production in Burkina Faso.
The training session concluded with a symbolic ceremony, where officials handed out production kits and certificates of completion to some participants. The kits include a participant's notebook and a 20m² tank capable of holding up to 2,000 fingerlings. Diane SAWADOGO reported the story for Mousso News.
The IP-P3A's initiative aligns with the government's efforts to boost local production and achieve self-sufficiency in food production. The program aims to empower young people and VDPs to contribute to the country's agricultural development.
