The Bourse de Casablanca has announced the launch of two new indices, MASI.20 Rentabilité Brut and MASI.20 Rentabilité Net, which integrate dividends to provide investors with a more comprehensive view of market performance. This move aims to enhance the attractiveness of the market and promote sustainable value creation. The announcement was made during a meeting on governance and corporate responsibility.
The Director-General of the Bourse de Casablanca, Nasser Seddiqi, emphasized the importance of transparency, trust, and good governance in strengthening market attractiveness and creating sustainable value. He highlighted that the 2025 Code of Good Governance offers issuers a reference framework to evolve their practices, enhance transparency, and promote responsible governance.
Seddiqi noted that good governance structures decision-making, manages risks, and considers the long-term perspective of companies, including their environmental and social impacts. He stressed the need to translate the Code's principles into daily decisions and practices. The new indices are expected to encourage responsible investment and promote a culture of sustainability among market players.
Yasser Mounsif, Director of Issuers at the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC), recalled that the MASI ESG index, introduced in 2018, aims to promote the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors by market players. The index has served as a benchmark for developing sustainable investment strategies.
Mounsif highlighted that over the past decade, the regulatory framework of the capital market has gradually introduced new requirements to strengthen the governance of listed companies, such as the establishment of specialized committees, independence of directors, and promotion of diversity and parity in governance bodies. These obligations are now recognized as performance, competitiveness, and attractiveness levers.
The adoption of good governance practices has been shown to increase companies' credibility with investors, influencing capital allocation and cost. Mounsif added that the adoption of these new reference frameworks reflects Morocco's ambition to consolidate a modern, competitive, and sustainable economy, capable of attracting long-term capital and supporting inclusive growth.
The meeting also revealed the new composition of the MASI.ESG index, which has evolved from ten values at its launch in 2018 to twenty values in November 2023. This evolution reflects the progress made by listed companies in ESG practices and their growing commitment to extra-financial performance.
