The 7th edition of the "Mois de Consommer Local" was officially launched in Bougouni, Mali, on October 30. The ceremony was presided over by Regional Governor, General Ousmane Wélé, at the Festival Didadi site. The event was attended by administrative and political authorities, the president of the Bougouni Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tiéwa Koné, and members of the chamber, traditional leaders, private sector representatives, and farmers, producers, and consumers from the Bougouni region.
The "Mois de Consommer Local" was initiated in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) in 2019 and has become a major event promoting local products and businesses. This year's edition is themed "Consommer local, facteur d'intégration régionale et de souveraineté économique de l'UEMOA face aux mutations du commerce mondial" (Consuming local, a factor of regional integration and economic sovereignty of UEMOA in the face of global trade changes).
The Bougouni region has significant potential for production, transformation, and local consumption, according to Dr. Tiéwa Koné, president of the Bougouni Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The chamber will continue to support economic actors in the region to turn this potential into concrete opportunities. The Malian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIM) will pursue its actions to promote Malian products and expertise on national and sub-regional markets.
The CCIM will focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in transformation and commercialization. The regional delegation of the Malian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bougouni will promote business opportunities, facilitate access to economic information, and support the structuring of actors. The delegation will also advocate for a favorable business environment.
Regional Governor Ousmane Wélé highlighted the considerable assets of the Bougouni region, including fertile land, varied agricultural products, artisanal know-how, and dynamic traders. He emphasized that the region must be an example during this month and beyond, with animated markets, valued products, rewarded producers, and sensitized consumers.
The governor also announced a major cultural event, the Biennale artistique et culturelle Bougouni 2027, which will mark the cultural life of the Bougouni region. The "Mois de Consommer Local" offers a privileged framework for mobilizing actors around the preparation and success of this national event.
The launch of the 7th edition of the "Mois de Consommer Local" in Bougouni marks a significant step in promoting local consumption and regional integration. The event will run throughout October, with various activities aimed at promoting local products and businesses.
