The Bono Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has facilitated utility billing adjustments totalling GH¢47,057.78 for consumers during the third quarter of 2026. This was achieved through interventions involving the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL). The adjustments aim to protect consumers, address billing concerns and ensure that utility providers deliver efficient and reliable services.

Out of the total amount adjusted, GH¢5,132.27 was attributed to NEDCo, while GH¢41,925.51 related to GWL. In a related revenue recovery exercise, GWL recovered GH¢164,249.82, reflecting PURC's efforts to resolve consumer-provider disputes while ensuring that legitimate revenue is recovered by utility companies. These interventions demonstrate PURC's commitment to promoting fairness and transparency in utility billing.

Beyond consumer-related interventions, PURC facilitation also reported significant improvements to the electricity distribution network, with 23 transformers upgraded across the region. The upgrades have collectively increased transformer capacity at the affected transformers and are expected to improve electricity supply for 4,178 customers. Several of the transformers had their capacity doubled to meet rising demand.

Notable transformer upgrades include the Kotokrom Cemetery Road Extension transformer, which was upgraded from 50KVA to 100KVA, serving 163 customers. The Watchman transformer increased from 100KVA to 200KVA to serve 326 customers. At Asufufu Valley, capacity was increased from 50KVA to 100KVA, benefiting 159 customers, while Uncle Paul moved from 100KVA to 200KVA, serving 309 customers.

The Kassagyan transformer received one of the notable upgrades, increasing from 200KVA to 315KVA and serving 359 customers. Other beneficiary communities include Kwadwofobehu, Benu Nkwanta, Feeder Roads, Motia Park, Parkso Asuakwa, Jica, Kwasi Ntum, GRNMA Hotel, Adwinsah, Julius, Atwimamonaso, Nanketewa, Dormaa Akwamu Clinic, Wamanafo Sawmill, Kofiasua, Kukuom Yawbafi, Kokoaa and City Aroma.

As part of the broader electricity infrastructure intervention, a total of 118 electricity poles were also replaced. The figure comprises 108 low-voltage (LV) poles and 10 high-tension (HT) poles. The replacement of the poles is intended to improve the safety, stability and resilience of the electricity distribution network and minimise the risk of service disruptions associated with deteriorating infrastructure.

The interventions represent a combination of consumer protection and infrastructure improvement measures, with PURC continuing to engage utility providers on billing concerns, revenue recovery and investments needed to improve service delivery. With 23 transformers upgraded and 118 poles replaced, the latest interventions provide a significant boost to electricity distribution infrastructure serving communities across the Bono Region.
