The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, has expressed his delight over the completion of a state-of-the-art CHPS compound at Kokoago in the Techiman North District of Ghana. This project is one of the initiatives being monitored in the district and is awaiting commissioning. The facility was constructed to address the healthcare needs of the Abimaja Electoral Area, which comprises five communities.
Mr. Owusu Antwi commended the District Chief Executive for Techiman North, Johnson Adom, the Member of Parliament for the area, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and the entire assembly team for their dedication to the project. The CHPS compound is fully equipped with essential facilities, including an Out Patient Department, consulting rooms, staff bungalows, and sanitation facilities. The assembly has also provided a brand new motorbike and a fridge to enable health staff to store their drugs and support operations effectively.
The Regional Minister praised the District Assemblies Common Fund for being used judiciously, as evidenced by the quality of the facility and the logistics provided. He noted that some District Chief Executives and Metropolitan Municipal Chiefs have complained about their budgets during monitoring visits to other areas. However, the Techiman North Assembly has successfully delivered a high-quality facility with the same or even lesser budget, demonstrating effective management of resources.
Mr. Owusu Antwi also commended the contractor for the excellent quality and speed of work. The surroundings of the facility have been graveled, and the floors tiled, unlike some other project sites where even clearing had not been done. The Regional Coordinating Council will urge other contractors and assemblies to emulate the example of Techiman North and investigate why some assemblies are unable to achieve similar results with the same funds.
The DCE for Techiman North, Johnson Adom, explained that the CHPS compound was constructed to serve the Abimaja Electoral Area, which had no primary healthcare facility until now. The area comprises five communities, including Kokroko, Kokoago, Kofiikrum, Ayasu, Sreso, and other adjoining settlements. During the 2024 election campaign, the DCE and the MP assured residents that the issue would be addressed if President John Dramani Mahama and the MP were given the mandate.
Johnson Adom stated that with 80% of the District Assemblies Common Fund now released to assemblies, they have been able to fulfill their promise to provide a health facility for the area. The new facility will significantly ease the difficulty residents face in accessing healthcare, as they previously had to travel to Aworowa or Wenchi for medical care. This development is expected to improve healthcare delivery and accessibility in the region.
The completion of the CHPS compound at Kokoago is a significant milestone in the healthcare sector, demonstrating the commitment of the government and the district assembly to improving healthcare infrastructure in Ghana.
