Bo Regional Hospital has completed Phases One and Two of its water reticulation system project, restoring consistent water supply to key maternity and critical care units within the facility. The project was supported by the Liebreich Foundation and Seed Global Health, aiming to improve healthcare delivery through better access to clean water in essential service areas. Hospital authorities confirmed that water has now been restored to several critical areas.

The restored water supply will benefit the Maternity Complex, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Boe Conroy’s Mother Dormitory, and the Mothers’ Waiting Area. These departments serve mothers and newborns, where clean water is essential for maintaining hygiene, preventing infections, and supporting safe medical care. The hospital experienced serious water shortages in these areas before the project was completed.

Patients, caregivers, and health workers often had to manually fetch water to support daily operations, placing added pressure on staff and affecting service delivery, particularly in maternity and neonatal care units where sanitation is critical. Health workers had raised concerns about infection risks, including surgical site infections in maternity care and neonatal sepsis in the SCBU.

With the completion of the project, hospital management expects improved hygiene conditions and stronger infection prevention measures across the affected wards. The restored water system will help create a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers while improving overall service delivery. Management expressed appreciation to the Liebreich Foundation and Seed Global Health for their support.

The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen hospital infrastructure and improve maternal and child health care in the region. The hospital says reliable water access is essential for safe and dignified healthcare services. The completion of the project is a significant milestone in the hospital's efforts to provide quality healthcare services to the community.

The hospital's management has acknowledged the impact of the project on healthcare delivery, and they look forward to continuing to provide improved services to patients. The Liebreich Foundation and Seed Global Health have demonstrated their commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in Sierra Leone.

The successful completion of the water reticulation project at Bo Regional Hospital is a positive development for the healthcare sector in Sierra Leone. The project has the potential to improve health outcomes for mothers and newborns, and it serves as a model for future healthcare initiatives in the region.
