The Nürburgring Nordschleife, a legendary German racetrack, officially opened on June 18, 1927. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, BMW has created a special line of nine "100 Jahre Nürburgring" edition vehicles. This collection comprises six cars and three motorcycles, all featuring unique design elements and enhanced specifications. The anniversary editions are a tribute to the iconic racing circuit and its rich history.
The limited-edition car lineup includes the M2, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan, and M5 Touring. The motorcycle range consists of the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR. A distinctive feature of all nine models is the Nürburgring Green paint, a historical color developed exclusively for this occasion. Additionally, they feature a "100 Years" logo, "Nürburgring since 1927" wording, and graphics depicting the circuit's iconic Nordschleife.
The cars in the collection boast unique design elements, including edition-specific stripes running across the roofs and anniversary graphics applied to areas such as the front doors, C-pillars, and rear side sections. The exterior color scheme combines Nürburgring Green with light grey and black, accented with green detailing on selected wheels and kidney frames. Inside, the cars feature black upholstery with contrasting green and white stitching, adding to their exclusive appeal.
Under the hood, the M2, M3, and M4 models feature BMW's new M Ignite pre-chamber ignition technology, which improves efficiency under high loads and reduces consumption. This technology helps the engines meet Euro 7 requirements without compromising performance. The M5 models, on the other hand, use BMW's M Hybrid plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor to produce 535kW and 1,000Nm.
The limited-edition models come with additional equipment, such as M carbon bucket seats in the M2 and green detailing on the wheels and kidney frames of the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupé. The M5 models feature Styling 951 M wheels with green accents and black Nordschleife embroidery. BMW South Africa has confirmed that three examples of each car will be available in the local market.
The motorcycle lineup is limited to 100 units worldwide, with one example of each model allocated to South Africa. The M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR feature standard equipment such as the M Track Package, Nürburgring Green paint, and anniversary decals. Each motorcycle comes with an exclusive M motorcycle mat bearing the anniversary logo and a rear-wheel paddock stand.
BMW has announced that orders for the M2 edition are expected to open in January 2027, although details of the South African arrival dates and pricing have not yet been released. The limited-edition vehicles are a unique tribute to the Nürburgring's 100th anniversary, offering a blend of performance, design, and exclusivity.
