A new platform, Sankofa Job, has been launched in Ghana to provide job opportunities for millions of young Ghanaians who face difficulties in finding work. The platform, built by Ghanaian company G&T Prestige Ltd, aims to connect people who need work with those who need workers. It is free for job seekers and open to every Ghanaian, regardless of whether they have a degree or a CV. The platform uses Ghana Card verification through the National Identification Authority to ensure that users are who they claim to be.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, about one in three young Ghanaians aged 15 to 24 who want to work cannot find employment, and nearly two million young people are not in school, work, or training. The Cyber Security Authority has also warned the public about fake recruiters and cloned websites that take money from desperate job seekers. The founder and CEO of G&T Prestige Ltd, Anthony Akwasi Gyamfi, stated that "Talent is everywhere in Ghana, but access is not."
Sankofa Job pays special attention to Ghanaians who have been left out of online hiring, such as masons, seamstresses, mechanics, hairdressers, caterers, technicians, and self-taught individuals. The platform allows users to post their skills and be booked by the hour, day, or week, while also building a record that employers can see. Households and businesses can also post their needs and find verified, skilled people nearby.
The platform makes three promises: no fees, no fraud, and no silence. Job seekers never pay to register, search, or apply, and every person and business is verified with the Ghana Card. Users can also report suspicious activity, and a personal dashboard allows job seekers to follow every application. Sankofa Job also offers Interview Prep, Skill Assessments, Mentorship, a Graduate Hub, and an Events section.
For businesses of every size, from single traders to national companies or NGOs, employers can post jobs and gigs in minutes and reach verified Ghanaian talent in every region. G&T Prestige Ltd is leading by example as the first hiring employer on its own platform, preparing to recruit up to 100 graduates and offering curated weekly gigs.
The name Sankofa comes from the Akan principle meaning "go back and get it." For Gyamfi, it is personal, as he left Ghana as a young man with limited resources and built a career as a pharmacist and pharmacy manager in Manhattan. He now divides his time between New York and Ghana and aims to open doors for every Ghanaian who was left behind by the old system.
Sankofa Job begins at home, working with businesses, universities, technical and vocational institutions, and partners across Ghana, and plans to grow to connect Ghanaians in the diaspora who want to hire, mentor, and invest at home. The company will publish verified results as the platform grows. Job seekers can register for free at www.sankofajob.com and are reminded never to pay anyone to get a job.
