In the commune of Toffo, Benin, a police investigation has led to the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement in a counterfeiting and narcotics trafficking network. The arrests were made on November 3 and 6, 2026, by the Houègbo district police station. The suspects, including a woman who works as a hairdresser, were apprehended at two separate locations in Agbotagon.

The first operation took place on November 3 at around 7 pm at a suspect's residence, which also served as a gathering place for illicit activities. Three people, including the hairdresser, were arrested at the scene. Police found 1,780,000 FCFA in counterfeit 10,000 FCFA bills, stacks of cut paper, 28 packets of Indian hemp, motorcycle parts, and SIM cards.

The hairdresser is suspected of being involved in counterfeit currency production and narcotics sales. According to police, her statements led investigators to other potential suspects. A second operation was conducted on November 6, targeting two members of the same family. Police found 1.5 kg of Indian hemp and 2 kg of smuggled medication at one suspect's store.

Further investigation at the brother's residence led to the discovery of printing materials and blank paper, potentially used for counterfeit currency production. The five arrested individuals will face charges before judicial authorities. The police investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspected members of the organization who are still at large.

The suspects arrested are believed to be part of an organized network involved in counterfeiting and narcotics trafficking. The police have not disclosed the identities of the suspects or their alleged roles in the network. The investigation is focused on dismantling the network and bringing all members to justice.

Counterfeiting and narcotics trafficking are serious offenses in Benin, punishable by law. The police have urged citizens to provide information that could help in the fight against these crimes. The authorities have also warned that they will continue to crack down on individuals and networks involved in such activities.

The successful operations by the Houègbo district police station demonstrate the efforts of Benin's law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime.
