The Association sportive Cotonou course piétonne à voile (Asccpv) is organizing a unique event from October 13-14 in Cotonou, Benin. This initiative is a blend of sports, memorial, cultural, educational, and civic activities dedicated to the memory of Mathieu Kérékou, the former President of Benin. The event aims to bring together athletes, youth, associations, coaches, volunteers, partners, and the general public.

The event, scheduled to take place from the Place de l’Amazone to the Palais des Congrès, seeks to promote the development and popularization of pedestrian sailing in Benin. This will be achieved by encouraging its practice, organization, and recognition. According to Mahouton Esther Goutondé, the promoter of sailing in Benin, the event is expected to be a gathering of people, a transmission of memory, and an engagement of youth.

At the heart of the program is a memorial race that will give sports a unique dimension, serving as a meeting and transmission space. The Asccpv aims to bridge the gap between generations by inviting young people to learn about Mathieu Kérékou's journey and history in an educational and non-partisan approach. This transmission will be extended through educational and cultural activities.

Some of the activities planned include the creation of a commemorative mural and five paintings for institutional actors, partners, or associated spaces. A recognition ceremony will also be held to honor athletes, coaches, volunteers, partners, and other actors in associative life. A total of 70 medals, 150 T-shirts, and caps will be awarded during the event.

The event is expected to foster a sense of unity and citizenship among participants. It will provide an opportunity for young people to engage in sports and learn about Benin's history and culture. The Asccpv's initiative is a way to keep the memory of Mathieu Kérékou alive while promoting the values of sports and civic engagement.

The event's organizers believe that it will have a positive impact on the development of sports in Benin. By promoting pedestrian sailing and other sports activities, the Asccpv aims to encourage a culture of sports and physical activity among the Beninese people. This, in turn, can contribute to the country's overall development and well-being.

The event is set to take place in October, and preparations are underway. With its unique blend of sports, culture, and education, the memorial event for Mathieu Kérékou is expected to be a success and a memorable experience for all participants.
