The commune of Banikoara in Benin has taken a significant step towards improving the living conditions of its border communities. On September 14, the local government distributed 2,962 energy equipment to residents of Founougo, Gomparou, Goumori, and Soroko. The equipment, which includes pico-solar systems, solar kits, and improved cooking stoves, aims to provide sustainable energy solutions to thousands of households. The project, supported by German cooperation, is part of the Endef initiative.
The distribution ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Banikoara, Sabi Goré Bio Ali, and representatives of partner organizations. A total of 2,191 pico-solar systems, 122 solar kits with four lighting points, and 649 improved cooking stoves were distributed. The solar kits will allow households to power multiple lights and charge mobile phones, which have become essential in daily life. The improved cooking stoves will not only reduce fuel consumption but also minimize exposure to smoke, benefiting women who are the primary users of these cooking facilities.
