The Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Issahak Ibrahim, has inaugurated a new CHIPS compound in Bedabour, a community in Ghana's Ashanti region. The project was funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). The facility aims to provide quality healthcare services to residents of Barbour and surrounding communities, reducing their travel distance to access basic healthcare.
Two additional CHIPS compounds are under construction in Mpasatia and Wansamire, while procurement processes have begun for others in selected communities. According to Mr. Issahak, the government's Resetting Agenda focuses on equitable distribution of infrastructure, particularly in health and other sectors. He mentioned that all District Assemblies have been directed to construct at least two CHIPs compounds annually to expand access to affordable quality healthcare.
Mr. Issahak appealed to chiefs and community members to collaborate in protecting the facility and urged health services staff to accept postings to rural communities. He also requested the Ghana Health Services to post at least a midwife and two community health nurses to ensure 24-hour operational services at the facility. The DCE emphasized that the facility is a lifeline for residents, saving them from traveling long distances to Nyinahin or Mpasatia for basic healthcare services.
The project was initially started in 2010 by a previous administration but was abandoned. However, the current administration completed the project within the DCE's first year in office, with support from the community. Mr. Issahak commended the residents for their support and commitment to addressing healthcare challenges across the district.
Madam Joyce Bannerman, the District Community Health Officer, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the project, which will help reduce maternal mortality, improve child healthcare, and provide first aid and emergency services. Nana Akwasi Yeboah, the Chief of Bedabour, thanked the government for considering the community and constructing the project.
