Bawa-Rock Limited, a gold trading and mining company based in Obuasi, Ghana, has provided financial assistance to poultry farmers in the Greater Accra Region who were severely affected by the June 29, 2026, floods in Accra. The relief package, valued at GH¢700,000, was presented to eight affected farmers at Roman Ridge in Accra. This initiative is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at supporting individuals and businesses affected by unforeseen challenges.

The financial assistance was calculated to help offset losses suffered by the farmers, including the loss of birds, working capital, farm infrastructure, and other valuables. Presenting the support on behalf of Bawa-Rock Limited, the company's Business Development Manager, Mr. Eric Addae Boateng, reaffirmed its commitment to CSR and to helping affected farmers rebuild and revive their businesses. He added that Bawa-Rock Limited would continue to pursue initiatives that support business owners and help them overcome challenges, including the impact of natural disasters.

Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Association of Poultry Farmers, Mr. Titus Frederick Lutterodt, commended Bawa-Rock Limited for its sustained support and generosity towards the affected farmers. He said the intervention had renewed hope among poultry farmers who had suffered significant losses as a result of the floods. The farmers had lost not only the birds and farm structures but also their means of livelihood and hope for the future.

Mr. Shak Al-Mohammed of Shak Farms expressed his appreciation to Bawa-Rock Limited, noting that without the assistance, their difficulties would have intensified and restarting their businesses would have been extremely challenging. Madam Abena Kyei, a poultry and piggery farmer since 1995, also recounted her repeated experiences with flooding disasters without receiving external assistance. She said the June floods destroyed tens of thousands of her birds, leaving her discouraged and considering abandoning the business.

Bawa-Rock Limited's support to the poultry farmers is not an isolated incident. The company also supported over 300 traders whose businesses were severely affected by the September 5, Obuasi Town Hall Fire, with a relief package worth GHc1.5 million, including industrial sewing machines as start-up kits to support their transition. This demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting businesses and individuals affected by unforeseen challenges.

The company's CSR initiatives are part of its broader goal of creating lasting value through transparency, compliance, and community impact. As a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, Bawa-Rock Limited is committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which it operates. The company's support to the poultry farmers and traders affected by the floods and fire is a testament to this commitment.

The support from Bawa-Rock Limited has been welcomed by the affected farmers and the broader community. The company's initiatives have renewed hope among poultry farmers and demonstrated the importance of CSR programmes in supporting businesses and individuals affected by unforeseen challenges. The company's commitment to transparency, compliance, and community impact is also expected to inspire other businesses to follow suit.
