The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Friday and Yunana Ali, for allegedly conspiring to obstruct public officers on duty, assaulting them, and causing malicious damage. According to the Command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on October 3, 2026, during a routine enforcement operation under Operation Velvet along Yelwa Road, Bauchi. The police operatives attached to the 'E' Division Patrol Team had intercepted a vehicle driven by the two suspects and requested to see the vehicle particulars for inspection.

Instead of complying with the lawful directive, the suspects allegedly became hostile, refused to present the documents, and physically assaulted the patrol team. The suspects also allegedly tore the uniform of an Inspector of Police during the incident. The police operatives subsequently subdued the suspects and took them into custody at the 'E' Division, where a discreet investigation into the incident has commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has condemned the alleged attack, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and a deliberate attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring public safety. He reiterated that assaulting police officers while performing their lawful duties would not be tolerated.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu stressed that members of the public have legitimate channels through which grievances can be addressed, and urged the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police officers during routine checks, and desist from acts capable of breaching public peace. The police command also assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of police officers in the line of duty and the need for the public to cooperate with them during routine operations. The police command has urged the public to provide information that could aid in the prevention of crimes and the apprehension of suspects.
