Barloworld Equipment Zambia Ltd, a leading provider of earthmoving equipment, materials handling, and power systems in Southern Africa, is currently seeking a highly skilled individual to fill the position of SHEQ and Facilities Manager in Kitwe, Zambia. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and accountability for the development, implementation, and continual improvement of an integrated Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) management system across Barloworld Equipment Zambia's operations. This will involve ensuring compliance with applicable Zambian occupational health and safety, environmental, mining, and related regulatory requirements.
The SHEQ and Facilities Manager will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and controlling risks arising from heavy-equipment operations, maintenance activities, fuel and hazardous-material handling, transport, and contractor interfaces. The individual will also lead regulatory engagement, audits, incident and near-miss investigations, emergency preparedness, training, and corrective-action closure. Furthermore, the SHEQ and Facilities Manager will be responsible for the effective lifecycle management, statutory compliance, security, reliability, and cost-efficient operation of all company facilities, property, utilities, plant, and related infrastructure across Zambia.
To qualify for this position, applicants must have a full Grade 12 certificate with good grades and a university degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment or equivalent from a recognised university. A NEBOSH or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage, as will a Property Management qualification or exposure. The ideal candidate will also have a Quality Management Systems / ISO standard certification/Auditor status, specifically ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certifications. Additionally, applicants must have at least 5 years of experience in SHEQ roles, preferably within mining, earth-moving fleets, heavy equipment maintenance, or construction.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate robust fleet safety, maintenance, and regulatory compliance practices that enable uninterrupted support to all mines, with measurable improvements in safety metrics, equipment reliability, and contract performance. The individual will also need to have experience in contractor management, budgeting, and finance, as well as people management and verbal and written communication skills. A valid driver's license and the ability to travel between Barloworld Equipment Zambia locations and respond to material incidents outside normal working hours when required are also essential.
In terms of key responsibilities, the SHEQ and Facilities Manager will lead the Zambia SHEQ function, set annual priorities, and provide visible leadership across all facilities, workshops, field operations, and customer mine sites. The individual will ensure compliance with applicable Zambian occupational health, safety, environmental, mining, and statutory requirements, customer standards, and regulatory permits. The SHEQ and Facilities Manager will also embed Barloworld policies, risk frameworks, delegated authorities, ethical standards, and governance controls, and promptly escalate material exposures.
The SHEQ and Facilities Manager will maintain integrated systems aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001, including legal registers, appointments, procedures, audits, and document control. The individual will lead enterprise and operational risk assessments and verify effective critical controls for high-risk work, including LOTO, permits, lifting, traffic, mobile equipment, and hazardous substances. The SHEQ and Facilities Manager will also direct incident and near-miss reporting, investigation, and root-cause analysis, ensuring corrective actions are assigned, verified, and closed within agreed timelines.
Key responsibilities of the SHEQ and Facilities Manager include overseeing environmental controls for waste, spills, emissions, water, and hazardous materials, ensuring licence conditions, inspections, and corrective actions are maintained. The individual will manage facility safety, security, statutory inspections, maintenance service providers, and SHEQ budgets to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The successful candidate will partner with operational leaders and customers to eliminate repeat findings, improve audit closure, reduce significant incidents, and deliver measurable continual improvement.
