On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, received Dr. Alaa Ashmawai, head of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, to discuss cooperation in accrediting and developing Azhar institutes and pre-university education curricula. The meeting was attended by Dr. Rajia Ali Mahmoud, deputy head of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education.

He noted that the accreditation rate for the current academic year reached 98% of Azhar institutes that applied for accreditation. Additionally, Al-Azhar University has the highest number of accredited colleges, with 66 colleges accredited by the authority, and 43 colleges still validly accredited.

The meeting resulted in an agreement to enhance cooperation in accrediting and developing institutes affiliated with Al-Azhar University and pre-university secondary education curricula. The agreement also includes providing technical support to faculty members in pre-university education to improve the quality of the education process and elevate the level of Azhar educational institutions.
