The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has handed over four dispatch motorcycles to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to strengthen Ayalolo's contraflow operations. This move aims to address logistical challenges and provide more dispatch riders to lead Ayalolo buses through traffic as the number of trips increases during the Christmas season. The additional motorcycles are expected to improve operational efficiency and minimise traffic disruptions.

Mr Ayariga also disclosed that the government is procuring marked pickup vehicles to support the exercise, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama. The Minister expressed confidence that the additional resources would enhance the overall performance of the Ayalolo contraflow system. He urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly between 6am and 9am and 4pm and 8pm, when Ayalolo buses operate the contraflow system.

During the presentation, Mr Ayariga dismissed social media reports claiming that an Ayalolo bus was involved in an accident. He clarified that the buses had only diverted to avoid an accident involving another vehicle before continuing their journey. The Minister accused the creator of a viral video of misrepresenting the incident and creating unnecessary fear among commuters.

Mr Ayariga insisted that no Ayalolo bus was involved in the accident and urged the public to verify information before sharing it on social media. He also indicated that authorities have the technology to trace the individual responsible for the video, warning against the deliberate spread of misinformation that could cause fear and panic among the travelling public.

The Minister's efforts to improve the Ayalolo contraflow system come as the Christmas season approaches, a period of increased passenger movement. The additional motorcycles and planned pickup vehicles are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the contraflow system. By enhancing the system's efficiency, the government aims to reduce traffic congestion and promote a safer travel experience.

The Ayalolo contraflow system is a critical component of Ghana's transportation infrastructure, providing an efficient and reliable means of transporting passengers. The system's success relies on effective management and coordination, which the additional motorcycles and resources are expected to support. The Minister's commitment to improving the system's performance is seen as a positive step towards enhancing the overall travel experience.

As the Christmas season approaches, motorists and commuters are advised to exercise caution and follow the necessary safety guidelines. The Minister's call for caution, particularly during peak hours, serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety. By working together, the government and the public can promote a safer and more efficient transportation system.
