Several coastal governorates in Egypt experienced heavy rainfall and flash floods, leading local authorities to elevate their state of preparedness and alertness. In the Red Sea governorate, the valley of Wadi Al-Ghadir in Marsa Alam city witnessed a surge in water flow, prompting swift action from concerned authorities to secure the road and clear debris. The Red Sea governorate's emergency response team, equipped with water suction machines, was deployed to the area to mitigate the effects of the flood.
In South Sinai, Governor Brigadier General Dr. Ismail Mohamed Kamel ordered all executive agencies and sectors to be on high alert until the expected severe weather conditions pass. The governor confirmed that traffic movement on the roads was stable, with no reported losses or damages due to the light floods in some areas. The governorate's authorities successfully cleared debris and rocks that had accumulated on the Dehab-Sant Katrin road, particularly in the Nuweibah and Sual areas.
The South Sinai governor instructed city mayors and relevant authorities to regularly clean floodwater outlets, remove accumulated debris, and inspect the condition of dams and artificial lakes to ensure they were ready to receive floodwaters. He also emphasized the need to verify the preparedness of emergency equipment, water suction vehicles, and response teams, as well as to promptly address any water accumulation or road debris.
Governor Kamel and other officials inspected the efforts to mitigate the effects of the floods and ensure road safety. The governor announced that all affected roads had been reopened to traffic, with ongoing efforts to clear debris and secure the roads. Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Governor Ayman Attia confirmed that the governorate's authorities were on high alert to address anticipated rainfall.
According to Dr. Ahmed Al-Komy, Director General of Irrigation in South Sinai, the dams in Wadi Al-Zalaj and Ghalim, as well as Al-Zalaj Lake, had collected around 10 million cubic meters of floodwater. The protection system in the city of Taba had also successfully contained around 600,000 cubic meters of floodwater.
