Algerian Communication Minister Mohamed Bouslimani has emphasized the crucial role of the media in defending the country against disinformation and hybrid threats. In a recent interview on the Radio Algerienne's "L'Invité du jour" program, Bouslimani stated that the media should be at the forefront of the country's defense against hostile acts aimed at destabilizing the nation. He highlighted the importance of reinforcing the professionality of media outlets, accelerating their digital transition, and mobilizing them to counter campaigns of disinformation targeting Algeria.

Bouslimani announced the upcoming finalization of the application texts for the organic law related to information, as well as the installation of regulatory authorities. He also revealed a comprehensive training program for journalists from both public and private sectors, all specialties included, as part of the efforts to modernize the national press. The minister stressed that the era of reaction is over, and it is now essential to act, prioritize anticipation, fact-checking, and the rapid dissemination of credible information.

The minister outlined the key areas of focus for the sector's reform, including the completion of the regulatory framework and the establishment of regulatory authorities to better regulate the profession and accompany the development of audiovisual, written, and digital media. He also mentioned the continuation of meetings with professionals to maintain dialogue and address the concerns of journalists and press enterprises.

Bouslimani highlighted the significance of training, which represents both a right for journalists and a responsibility for press enterprises, which are called upon to ensure the permanent upgrading of their personnel. He also advocated for the adoption of a new economic model for the press, emphasizing that digital is now indispensable to the viability of media enterprises. The minister mentioned the need for reliable audience measurement tools to valorize digital content.

Algeria's national media landscape comprises over 200 written press titles and 142 information websites, while the public television enterprise operates 11 channels. Bouslimani also emphasized the importance of social protection for journalists, the generalization of work contracts, and the elimination of undeclared work. He mentioned the support provided by the legislation on information and indirect state support, particularly for printing and paper costs.

In the face of hostile campaigns and disinformation attempts, Bouslimani called on the media to strengthen their vigilance and contribute to the consolidation of the internal front and national unity. He encouraged journalists to better cover major structuring projects launched by the state, such as the Gara Djebilet mining project and associated railway infrastructure, the Algiers-Tamanrasset railway link, housing programs, and efforts in the field of medication and health security.

As the country approaches the electoral deadline of November 28, Bouslimani assured that the necessary means would be mobilized to guarantee adequate media coverage. A coordination has been established with the Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE), and arrangements are being made for the reception and work of national and foreign journalists at the International Conference Center. The minister concluded by paying tribute to the pioneers of Algerian Radio and Television, highlighting their role in maintaining the continuity of broadcasts on October 28, 1962.
