The Atiku Bagudu Grassroots Network for Tinubu 2027 has thrown its support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him for a second term in office. This endorsement comes as the group declared its intention to mobilise 19 million votes from the 19 northern states for his re-election. The network named Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, as its patron. This move was announced after a meeting in Abuja attended by delegates from the 19 northern states.

The meeting, which was attended by delegates representing the 19 northern states, was aimed at reviewing the administration’s policies and programmes. Members also discussed strategies for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election. According to the convener of the group, Hon. Ali Oriri, the network plans to build a strong grassroots structure across the North. This structure will be crucial in mobilising support for Tinubu and securing the group’s target of 19 million votes.

The group’s support for Tinubu is based on the administration’s efforts to reposition the economy, strengthen infrastructure, and implement reforms aimed at creating a more sustainable fiscal foundation for the country. The removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, and ongoing fiscal and tax reforms were highlighted as difficult but necessary measures. These measures are aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges in the Nigerian economy.

The network also cited ongoing investments in critical sectors such as roads, rail, power, housing, and agriculture as reasons for seeking continuity under Tinubu. The Federal Government has reported that over 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads are currently under construction, reconstruction, or rehabilitation. The 2026 budget places significant emphasis on capital investment and infrastructure, reflecting the administration’s commitment to development.

Continuity, according to the group, is important to allow the reforms to mature and translate into broader economic opportunities and improved living conditions for Nigerians. The administration’s efforts to increase revenue and strengthen public finances through fiscal and tax reforms were also noted. The Presidency has stated that these reforms aim to improve fiscal efficiency, strengthen revenue generation, and create a sustainable basis for financing infrastructure and social investments.

The network plans to take its campaign to communities across the North, engaging traditional, religious, youth, and community leaders as part of its grassroots mobilisation strategy. Members of the network in the 19 northern states have been urged to strengthen their structures and commence sustained engagement with voters ahead of the 2027 election. The convener, Hon. Ali Oriri, expressed confidence that the 19 million-vote target is achievable with effective coordination and sustained mobilisation across the region.

The group further expressed support for Senator Atiku Bagudu’s role in the administration’s economic management, citing his position as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning as a reason for his suitability as patron of the network. The meeting concluded with a resolution to sustain mobilisation activities across the North and strengthen coordination among delegates from the 19 states as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
