The wife of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Hajia Titi Atiku Abubakar, and the party's running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, have called on women to take an active role in the 2027 general election. They made the appeal at the ADC National Women League Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday. The conference, which took place at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, brought together women from across the country to discuss their role in the upcoming election.

Abubakar charged the women to approach the election as a fight for the future of their children. She emphasized the need for women to mobilize voters, particularly in rural communities, and resist attempts to influence their votes. Abubakar also cautioned against surrendering voter cards in exchange for money or food, saying it could not address the underlying economic hardship.

Amaechi told the women that they would determine the outcome of the party's battle in the 2027 general election. He tasked them with taking the campaign into their wards and polling units, citing the need for a grassroots strategy that has given them victory in the past. The former Rivers State governor decried the current economic situation, citing a hike in food prices, unemployment, and the rising number of out-of-school children.

According to Amaechi, the number of out-of-school children has risen from between 10 million and 12 million to about 20 million, while the number of illiterate Nigerians has reached 92 million. He urged the women to replicate their successful grassroots strategy, which has given them victory in the past, and target 2000 votes per ward.

Amaechi's suggestion is part of the party's 'one to 10' mobilisation strategy, which he believes is too small. He encouraged the women to aim to bring 2000 votes per ward, which would translate to 17 million votes and guarantee the party's victory in the election.

Abubakar also appealed to the women to mobilize voters across the country and defend their right to choose their leaders. She urged them to go to the polling booths and fight for their children and the generation yet unborn. The women were also cautioned against temporary assistance, which could not address the underlying economic hardship.

The ADC National Women League Conference provided a platform for women to discuss their role in the 2027 general election. The party's leaders, including Abubakar and Amaechi, are counting on the women to play a crucial role in mobilizing voters and securing victory for the party.
