The Association for Economic and Social Development of the North Region (ADES-Nord) recently convened the Day of Cadres and Competencies of the Yaadga region in Ouahigouya. Under the theme "Co-constructing a dynamic of sustainable and inclusive territorial development: what contribution from the cadres and competencies, daughters and sons of the Yaadga region?", the event aimed to unite efforts and mobilize local human resources for regional development. The meeting was chaired by the governor of the Yaadga region, Thomas Yamba.
The conference took place against a backdrop of significant security, social, and economic challenges, necessitating increased mobilization of local forces to strengthen population resilience and promote sustainable development. Established in March 2022, ADES-Nord was formed by local leaders and residents seeking to address regional difficulties through collective action. Since 2021-2022, the region has faced escalating internal displacement, increased pressure on basic social services, and growing needs for solidarity and social cohesion.
ADES-Nord's mission is to unite Yaadga region residents to contribute to the area's sustainable economic, social, cultural, and environmental development through concerted actions. The association promotes social cohesion, collaboration, and advocacy for territorial development priorities in close cooperation with public authorities, partners, and local communities. Its goal is to engage reflections, initiate and lead actions, and foster socio-economic development in Burkina Faso, particularly in the Yaadga region.
The diagnostic analysis of the region plays a crucial role in the discussions, enabling participants to identify major challenges, prioritize urgent needs, and determine structural investments to sustainably support Yaadga's development. Governor Thomas Yamba praised the initiative, highlighting its alignment with government orientations on mobilizing endogenous resources and citizen participation in development.
According to Governor Yamba, the conference offers an opportunity to mobilize local competencies, organize dialogue, and prepare a citizen contribution to public action. He emphasized the coherence of this approach with the role assigned to civil society organizations in implementing the 2026-2030 RELANCE plan. Yamba also stressed the importance of the diagnostic report in distinguishing between urgent needs and investments requiring more in-depth preparation.
ADES-Nord president Mahamadi Bangrin Ouédraogo reported that several actions have been undertaken, including advocacy, solidarity actions, social cohesion initiatives, and partnerships. Over 500 million CFA francs have been mobilized since 2022, and 150 social events have been organized. Ouédraogo emphasized that endogenous and sustainable development is ADES-Nord's credo, requiring a shared vision, concerted governance, and sustainable mobilization of regional resources.
The association aims to create a federative framework for action in favor of development, working in complementarity with the state, territorial collectivities, and development actors. In the short term, ADES-Nord prioritizes proposing a roadmap based on retained conclusions. In the medium term, it seeks to accompany the preparation of a credible project portfolio, with a long-term vision of a strong, solidary, and attractive region where each province contributes to collective progress.
