A delegation of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, led by Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in Accra. The visit was to inform the government about the 10th Triennial Congress, scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2026, and to seek the Ministry's support for its successful organisation. This is the first time the congress will be held in Africa.
Rev. Wengam said the event was expected to bring spiritual and economic benefits to Ghana and expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the government for supporting preparations. He appealed to the Ministry to facilitate visa applications for international participants through Ghana's diplomatic missions abroad. The congress is expected to attract participants from around the world, including former Malawian President Rev. Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa commended the Fellowship for choosing Ghana to host the congress and acknowledged the Assemblies of God's contributions to global evangelisation and peace. He assured the delegation of the government's support, saying President Mahama had directed the Ministry to provide the necessary assistance. The Minister also appointed two senior Ministry officials to the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
The delegation also included Rev. Albert Anane, General Secretary, and Rev. Andrews Awintia, LOC Chairman, among others. The Minister was joined by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister James Gyakye Quayson, the Ministry's Chief Director, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, and other senior officials. During the visit, Rev. Wengam presented a Bible to the Minister and urged him to be guided by the Word of God in the discharge of his duties.
The 10th Triennial Congress is a significant event for the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, and Ghana is hosting it for the first time. The event is expected to bring together leaders and members of the Fellowship from around the world to discuss matters of faith and spirituality. The government has pledged its support to ensure the success of the event.
Rev. Wengam and the delegation expressed their gratitude to the Minister and the government for their support. They also discussed the logistical arrangements for the congress, including accommodation and transportation for participants. The event is expected to be a major boost to Ghana's economy and international profile.
The meeting between the Assemblies of God delegation and the Foreign Affairs Minister is a significant development in the lead-up to the 10th Triennial Congress. The government's support for the event is expected to ensure its success and to promote Ghana's image as a host country. The congress will take place from October 14 to 16, 2026, at an undisclosed venue in Accra.
