The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) recently organized a review and development day for sports teachers in the Ashanti Region. The event, held on September 30, 2026, at the Afigya Kwabre South Education Office, brought together 22 sports teachers, education officials, and Rugby League representatives. The day's focus was on reviewing progress, sharing experiences, and setting priorities for 2027. Sports teachers from primary, junior high, and senior high schools participated, representing institutions such as Aduman SHS, Pentecost SHS, and Afigya Secondary Technical.

The programme was attended by notable figures, including Mr. David Akomeah Asokwah, District Director of Education for Afigya Kwabre South and Vice Chairperson of the Ashanti Region Rugby League. He expressed gratitude to RLFG and the sports teachers for their commitment to promoting Rugby League in the region. Asokwah encouraged the participants to continue creating opportunities for young people through the sport. Ashanti Regional Manager Julius Amevor also highlighted the progress being made in the region, citing the growing talent among young players and increased participation in Rugby League.

The review and development day featured a practical technical session led by RLFG Technical Director Marshall Nortey. The session covered essential topics such as Rugby League rules, positioning, coaching, player management, and game-day responsibilities. Julius Amevor, Regional Manager (Technical) and Level 1 Coach & Referee, and George Asamoah, Regional Manager (Organising) and Level 1 Coach, also contributed to the technical and organisational discussions. This comprehensive approach aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of sports teachers in delivering Rugby League programmes.

Sports teachers shared their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from delivering Rugby League in their schools. This open discussion allowed participants to identify what was working well and areas where further support was needed. The sharing of experiences and best practices enabled the sports teachers to learn from one another and gain valuable insights into effective programme delivery.

The focus then shifted to planning for 2027, with participants discussing school competitions and festivals. They explored ways to strengthen the structure and delivery of Rugby League across the region. The discussions emphasized the importance of collaboration between schools, RLFG, education officials, and sports stakeholders in developing Rugby League. A clear message emerged: developing Rugby League requires more than just developing players; it also requires knowledgeable teachers, capable coaches, and strong organisation.

The review and development day marked a significant step towards a more structured 2027 programme. Participants left with clearer priorities and a shared commitment to move from discussion to action. The event demonstrated the commitment of RLFG and its partners to promoting Rugby League in the Ashanti Region. By investing in the development of sports teachers, the organisation aims to create a strong foundation for the growth of Rugby League in Ghana.
