The Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, Most Revd Dr Michael Olusina Fape, has urged Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, to prioritize security, unity, and the welfare of the people if elected governor in 2027. Fape gave the charge during a meeting with Adeola, accompanied by other bishops of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in the state.
Fape, who is also the Bishop of Remo, emphasized that peace and unity are essential to the development of Ogun State. He stressed that the state, being a gateway with several border communities, requires a robust security architecture. The Archbishop urged Adeola to make the safety of residents a major priority, including stronger collaboration among security agencies and community-based structures.
On human capital development, Fape advised Adeola to focus on education, healthcare, skills acquisition, and youth empowerment. He advocated for greater investment in vocational and technical education to equip young people with relevant skills and create employment opportunities. The cleric also appealed for even distribution of development and government amenities between urban and rural communities.
Fape further advised Adeola to surround himself with people of competence and character if elected. He urged the politician to appoint truthful and committed individuals from different parts of the state and to carry along religious organizations in governance. The Archbishop reminded Adeola that political office is temporary, but its impact can be lasting.
Responding, Senator Adeola appreciated the bishops for their prayers, counsel, and warm reception. He assured them that his administration would promote religious harmony and work closely with faith-based institutions. Adeola pledged not to let the Body of Christ down if entrusted with the leadership of the state.
Adeola pointed to his record of representation and developmental interventions as a senator as an indication of his capacity and commitment to public service. He also spoke about his ITESIWAJU Agenda, which aims to sustain existing development while expanding opportunities and improving the quality of life of residents across Ogun State.
The meeting took place in Sagamu and was attended by Archbishop Fape and other bishops of the Anglican Communion in Ogun State. Adeola expressed his commitment to delivering an administration that meets the expectations of the people if given the mandate in 2027.
