Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has called on University of Ibadan (UI) students to take an active part in politics. He made this appeal on September 22, 2026, during the Honourable Odidiomo Students' Legislative Summit at the University of Ibadan's International Conference Centre. The summit, organized by the UI Students' Representative Council, aimed to promote service-driven leadership in Nigeria.
Ajadi emphasized that students should not shy away from politics if they want to contribute to changing Nigeria's political and developmental trajectory. He stated that political participation allows citizens to engage with the government, influence policies, and contribute to the delivery of democratic dividends. According to Ajadi, students should participate in politics to engage the government and shape the direction of society.
The APM candidate noted that involvement in political parties is not solely a pathway to seeking elective office but also an avenue for young Nigerians to understand governance, develop ideas, and prepare for leadership responsibilities. He added that good governance is a result of responsible political participation, allowing people with good intentions to contribute ideas, influence policies, and work towards delivering meaningful democratic dividends.
Ajadi urged students to regard themselves as stakeholders in Nigeria's political future, stressing that the country needs a new generation willing to participate in democratic processes rather than remain spectators. His remarks were part of the summit's discussions, which examined leadership, legislative responsibilities, public service, and the role of young Nigerians in nation-building.
Hon. Dhikrullah Olajide Stanley Adedeji Odidiomo also spoke at the event, encouraging students to acquire relevant skills in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing. He emphasized that technological knowledge would increasingly shape education, employment, governance, and national development.
The summit provided a platform for students to engage stakeholders on responsible leadership, legislative practice, public service, political participation, and emerging technologies. The event aimed to expose participants to leadership responsibilities and encourage them to play more active roles in Nigeria's democratic and developmental processes.
