The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emphasized the need for the electorate to vote for its gubernatorial candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 general elections. According to the party, Hamzat possesses the experience and skill required to move the state forward. The APC stated that Hamzat is the most qualified among the candidates vying for the position.
The party, in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, noted that Lagos has spent over two decades building a distinctive development model founded on continuity, institutional memory, long-term planning, and successive administrations building upon the foundations laid by their predecessors. The APC stated that the question of who wants the job deserves an honest, dispassionate, and intellectually rigorous examination.
The party highlighted Hamzat's experience in governance, having held many prominent positions in the state. He was Commissioner for Science and Technology under Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2005 and was retained by Governor Babatunde Fashola. He later served as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure and as a technical adviser on works and infrastructure at the federal level.
The APC noted that Hamzat's exposure placed him at the center of some of the most consequential phases of Lagos' transformation. The party commended him for perseverance, having sought the APC governorship ticket in 2018 and becoming the running mate to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who elected him as Deputy Governor in 2019.
The party emphasized that Lagos requires a candidate with experience and not someone who will experiment with governance. With over 20 million people, Lagos is a global commercial center and one of Africa's most consequential urban economies. The next governor will inherit ongoing programs and long-term projects in various sectors.
The APC stated that the next administration will need to possess sufficient institutional understanding to sustain, improve, and complete ongoing projects. The party believes that Hamzat's experience and skills make him the best candidate for the job. Hamzat was adopted as the Lagos APC's consensus governorship candidate for 2027 in 2026.
