A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yakubu Sani, has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from attacking the party's stakeholders during project commissioning ceremonies in the Territory. Sani made this appeal on 27 September 2026, as reported by The Sun. He urged Wike to emulate Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, who has focused on governance and delivering projects without resorting to hate speech.
Sani reminded Wike that his primary responsibility is to deliver on the mandate assigned to him by President Bola Tinubu, particularly to improve the living conditions of the residents of the nation's capital. He emphasized that every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to discuss development, not an occasion to abuse or denigrate perceived obstacles to Wike's political ambition.
The APC chieftain further complained that Wike's increasing combative political rhetoric could overshadow the infrastructure projects executed under the Tinubu administration. He advised Wike to allow the projects delivered under his watch to speak for his performance, rather than engaging in political exchanges at commissioning ceremonies.
Sani urged Wike to broaden his definition of development beyond roads and bridges to include the constant provision of water and guiding taxi drivers to establish order on Abuja roads. He noted that many FCT residents lack access to water, while motorists compete with refuse dumps for space on major roads in the city.
The APC chieftain emphasized that Wike should prioritize the welfare of teachers, healthcare workers, and civil servants in the FCT, in addition to building infrastructure. He stated that it is essential to consider the well-being of those who teach children, treat the sick, and run the machinery of the government.
Sani advised Wike to devote greater attention to the administration of the FCT, improve workers' welfare, and reduce unnecessary political confrontations. He urged Wike to concentrate on his job and let the quality of his work speak for him, instead of using every commissioning ceremony to attack APC governors who are committed to Tinubu's re-election.
By adopting a more mature and decent approach to engagement, Sani believes Wike can effectively promote his achievements and contribute to the success of the Tinubu administration. He cited Governor Uzodimma as an example of a leader who has successfully balanced governance and party politics without resorting to personal attacks.
