Angola is participating in the 9th edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE 2026), which is taking place in Shanghai until November 10. The Angolan delegation, led by Industry and Commerce Minister Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, consists of 26 private companies, 20 public institutions, and a total of 138 participants. The goal is to showcase Angola's economic and business potential, attract foreign investment, and identify new business and cooperation opportunities.
The CIIE 2026 provides a platform for Angola to promote its products and services, explore possibilities of expanding international trade relations, and establish strategic partnerships. According to an official statement, the Angolan presence at the expo aims to diversify the economy, strengthen the presence of national products and services in external markets, and increase participation in international trade dynamics.
The agreement on visa exemption between Angola and Macau, signed on September 4, 2026, will also facilitate travel and trade between the two territories. The agreement allows residents of Macau and Angolan citizens to enter each other's countries without a visa, staying for up to 30 days. This move is expected to promote tourism, academic exchanges, and commercial ties between the two regions.
The visa exemption agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by Wong Sio Chak, Secretary for Administration and Justice of Macau, and Eduardo Velasco Galiano, Angolan consul in Macau. Wong Sio Chak stated that the agreement will significantly ease the lives of residents in both territories, promoting greater interaction between populations and deepening cultural exchange.
Eduardo Velasco Galiano emphasized that the agreement will eliminate bureaucratic barriers and uncertainty, opening doors to a future of greater prosperity and economic exchange. With this agreement, Angola becomes the fourth Portuguese-speaking country, after Portugal, Brazil, and Cape Verde, to benefit from Macau's visa exemption regime.
The Angolan delegation's participation in the CIIE 2026 is seen as a way to strengthen economic and commercial relations with China, a key partner for Angola. The country's presence at the expo is also expected to attract Chinese investment and promote Angolan products and services in the Chinese market.
The CIIE 2026 provides a valuable opportunity for Angola to engage with China and other countries, promoting trade, investment, and economic cooperation. The event is expected to foster greater economic ties between Angola and China, as well as with other participating countries.
