The Anambra State Police Command has initiated disciplinary measures against several officers following the disappearance of an armed robbery suspect from the 3-3 Police Station. Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has taken the incident seriously and instructed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to provide explanations for the incident. An Inspector of Police is also facing disciplinary actions.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, the orders for disciplinary actions were given on October 5, after CP Ama met with the complainant and the police officers involved. The incident gained attention after a viral video claimed that the suspect, who was arrested at the station, could no longer be found. The Commissioner emphasized that any situation that could erode public trust in the police would be thoroughly addressed.

The police chief has also directed the Command’s X-Squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspect's arrest, detention, and documentation. The investigation aims to determine what happened to the suspect after he was brought to the station and to review the actions of each officer involved. Additionally, CP Ama has instructed his team to take steps to apprehend the suspect.

The Commissioner stressed that unprofessional conduct, neglect of duty, misuse of authority, or violations of established police protocols will not be tolerated. He assured the public that the results of the investigation would be made public once all the facts are clear. Ikenga noted that CP Ama warned against the spread of unverified information that could compromise the ongoing investigation.

The investigation will also examine whether any officers will face additional penalties for their roles in the incident. The Commissioner reiterated that accountability is a crucial aspect of his leadership and that no police officer would be above scrutiny or escape disciplinary actions. The incident has raised concerns about police professionalism and the need for greater transparency.

CP Ama's directives reflect the Command's commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. The Anambra State Police Command is working to restore public confidence and demonstrate its willingness to address any instances of misconduct. The outcome of the investigation is expected to be made public in due course.

The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining public trust. The Anambra State Police Command's response to the incident will be closely watched, as it seeks to balance the need for accountability with the imperative of effective policing.
