Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has told leaders of the opposition party that many of them will be retired from politics if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-elected. He made this statement while addressing the ADC-National Women League Conference in Abuja. Amaechi cited the example of how the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the center in 2015.
Amaechi charged the women to go to their states and wards and bring in votes, saying that is the only way ADC will be able to defeat APC. He emphasized that if they don't want to retire from politics, they must go home and campaign. Amaechi plans to start his campaign in Kebbi, Yola, Rivers, and Delta, fighting for governorship elections, as he believes the Presidential candidate cannot govern without the governors.
The former minister of Transportation noted that the APC used women to defeat the PDP in the past. He recalled how women were instrumental in their victory, saying they brought out the women, spoke to them, and made sure they came out to vote. Amaechi believes that if the women in the north come out to vote, Tinubu cannot announce any result.
Amaechi also highlighted the current state of Nigeria, stating that 10 Nigerians move into poverty every week. He mentioned that by the time he left government in APC, there were 10-12 million out-of-school children, which has now increased to 20 million. He believes that Tinubu's policies are taking Nigerians, especially those in the north, into poverty.
Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar, who also spoke at the gathering, urged the women not to be intimidated and to work for the betterment of Nigeria. She charged them to go out and convince their friends, neighbors, and others to vote for the ADC. Atiku Abubakar noted that the cost of living is expensive, and most children are not in school due to financial constraints.
Atiku Abubakar emphasized that people are struggling to make ends meet, and even contractors are not being given money because of the ADC. She urged the women to go to all corners of Nigeria, especially to people in villages, to garner support for the party. Atiku Abubakar believes that the party has to get what it needs by force.
The ADC leaders are gearing up for the 2027 elections, determined to defeat the APC. With Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar leading the charge, the party is counting on the support of women and other Nigerians to achieve victory. The outcome of the election will determine the fate of many ADC leaders, including Amaechi, who may be retired from politics if Tinubu wins.
